FREQUENTLY
ASKED QUESTIONS:
What are
the advantages of extruded thermoplastic rubber compared to masticated rubber?
The extrusion process mixes and blends the raw materials together providing
a product that has a more uniform appearance and increasing the strength of
the material. Our material, a blend of finely-ground tire rubber and plastics,
can be recycled again and again. All scrap generated can be recycled back
into the product. On the other hand, masticated rubber is manufactured by
grinding up tire rubber, pouring the crumbed rubber into a tray and applying
pressure and heat to create a sheet of rubber. This sheet is still in a vulcanized
form which means that the products will still end up in the landfill and all
of the scrap generated in the manufacturing process will most likely end up
in a landfill.
What is the cost?
Because we are a custom extruder having ten different surface patterns
and a variety of material blends available in thicknesses from .045"
to .500", we cannot provide generic pricing. Please contact us by phone,
fax or email to discuss your specific needs.
What
is the widest sheet I can get?
Depending on the surface pattern and thickness, widths up to 100 ” are
available.
What is the longest roll I can get?
Depending
on the width ordered and our customer’s handling constraints, we are
able to supply material in rolls up to approximately 4000 lbs. Surface pattern,
thickness and width are all factors to be considered.
How thick
is the rubber?
Depending on the surface pattern desired, we can run from .045" up to
1/2" thick. Grooved or ribbed patterns have a higher minimum thickness
that is determined by the depth of the groove or rib.
How hard (or soft) is the rubber?
We
have varying degrees of hardness. On a Shore A measurement, we can supply
durometer from 60 to 95+.
